Isekai
In another world I have all these skills, now let's see how transferable they are.
I'm going to write a little today about Isekai. Naturally I must absolutely distance myself from anime. I have some feelings towards anime within the genre of adult animation, since it should be considered as such - because what the fuck is going on in all of them bruh...
If you didn't tell or couldn't figure it out based on just about everything from the thoughts that race through my mind or the words that I am fairly used to going through, I am entertained by just about everything. The breadth of what amazes me is not short-sighted.
I love seeing the world as other people would represent it. In whatever amount of effort, as long as you can tell their heart is in it, with most art forms and in most art, you can feel the emotions through what specifically stands out. It gains so much when you accept it and see it through your own SWORM. especially if they don't resonate, often times it is the method or the work themselves that they resonated and ouptutted based on that.
I appreciate authentic work. I appreciate authentic people and authentic displays coming from different people.
I digress, as I usually do, and you would figure from my collection of notes.
Isekai
Oh how I have a deep love/hate relationship with anime. At this point in time more hate than love. But Anime is again a very varied set of creations that also offer the world or snippets at the very least, built from the imaginations and observations of others just like any other art forms. But today I will talk about Isekai, because it is a genre that entrances me with the love of fantasy, because for good fantasy to exist, it must be rooted in some reality.
The first isekai I probably really understood was in the genre of isekai was Sword Art Online. Wow. A techno-dreamland where If you die in the game you die in real life? That's amazing, and at the heart of it, theres all that is persuasive and equally as engaging as with that fuck-ass ready player one series (which I never really enjoyed –felt self-satisfied, and maybe I wasnt a gamer enough).
Overpowered Hero
One of the hallmarks of Isekai, is very much the overpowered hero archetype.
Some examples are in fantasy action:
- Kirito or Asuna in Sword Art Online
- Main in Ascendance of a Bookworm
- Ainz in Overlord
- Naofumi in Shield Hero
- Id say even
Now this is the true fantasy, and the overpowered hero doesn't even need to be truly overpowered. They can just carry over that passion which is intrinsic to just about every one of us, and that deep love of -the-game- whatever that may be and whatever game that might be for each of us.
The Overpowered hero presents us with countless characteristics that build up to the emergent properties.
These being:
- Self confidence To become overpowered, or to be able to be an active agent in the story, to be the hero of their own story, the main character must be confident in. even if not their own capabilities at the moment, their ability to acquire the skills to gain those capabilities.
- Industriousness The ability to bridge knowledge, both explaining how things are working and applying their past knowledge to new/novel situations. And experimenting! most often it working out.
- Openness to new experiences Without embodying this trait, they would hit clear blocks, especially at every obstacle. They must be willing to work with and adapt to the new world. Which is something all of us, who are placed in new situations, situations where we feel like we've lost a footing, a foundation, and can regain balance.
- Resilience After encountering an obstacle, the willingness to struggle with it, and not shy away from the difficulties of it are put to the test! How much can this hero stand, and musn't they keep fighting? if not would there even be a story?
Lastly and most importantly all of these traits allow them to gain this deeply important emergent property of being overpowered.
What does it mean to be overpowered
It means, no matter where they are, in whatever situation, they feel secure. Or at least secure enough to try new things. There's an important concept in Attachment Theory that I think would interest you if you were interested in this. They may show slight doubt, which is important, it humanizes the character. How can you be completely sure of yourself without being sure that you don't know everything, but they can acquire these new skills thanks to their characteristics.
Even if none of their shit works, you can trust that they will be able to make it work. Albeit even if they fail, they are not afraid to fail, because their knowledge is held throughout. Every experience is a learning experience. And it is so fucking fun to learn and to fail and to try again. Being overpowered means with every problem there is a solution. Oftentimes you
Theory on why these characteristics work?
These are characteristics that are universally struggled with. And no matter how far along in whatever journey you may be. There is a deeper higher dimensional balance to be struck. With every new data point, your data will shift.
The best part is these characteristics are exactly that! Characteristics. They are traits, they define the character of these heroes. There is growth through openness, through feeling secure. Though the data that is held will inevitably change, these
What does this mean for you, for me, for us?
We have the wonderful ability to remember that these characteristics are not inherited and fatal, they are cultivated, developed over time. We are mutable. WE ARE MUTABLE.
You can choose to be a different person, you can choose to open yourself up more. It's important to remember to view each day as a new beginning.
